Digital Sketch - Doolah

A.K.A. "I draw other people's characters without their permission"

A digital sketch! After I finished drawng that Sharon bust shot that had taken so much out of me, I began to feel really inspired and wanted to try my hand at another drawing. While I initially had other art plans today, I chose to set that aside to better focus on this sketch. I'd say this sketch took about... five to seven hours? Granted, one of those hours was spent toying around with a rough background that didn't make it in (it was too rough and refining it would've added another five hours to the workload), but it was a still a fair deal of time.

So, what did I sketch out? A drawing I owe somebody? More of my characters? Nope! I decided to sketch Dizzie-Dog's pirate character Doolah! The main reason is because Diz helped encourage me to finish that Sharon drawing of mine, a drawing that became so burdensome to do that the very idea of drawing in general became something I would eventually dread. A streak of depressed tweets and an absolutely miserable week later, she chirped in to help me - her actual encouragement was that I give drawing a break and instead pursue another form of art, which really caught my interest to the point that I even wound up buying the needed supplies (and I intend to use them, mind you). Having something to look forward to, I pressed on and finished that drawing (much of it was already done at that point and it seemed wasteful to discard it), so now I'm finally free of its clutches! I know a sketch isn't much of a sign of gratitude, but I hope it at least counts for something.

Also, after spending so much time drawing my own characters, I wanted to branch out and try someone else's character again, even if it's someone I've drawn before. And hey, Doolah is super fun to draw! Her body shape also allowed me to try my hand at a different character build (though my rendition is arguably bulkier and burlier than Diz's own drawings). And look! I can still draw hands... sort of... well, they came better than I had anticipated, anyway...

Definitely had fun with this one, even if there's still bunch of flaws (head is a little too small, left hand and mug need a little fixing, belly too round, etc.). If I ever get a chance to work on this further (and I'd really like to), I'll definitely try to fix up a little more. Hope you like it, Diz!
